About Alex

Hey,

If you have read my first post here, you will already know that my name is Alex. I’m a 40 year old tandem kayak, diving, and swimming fanatic.

Alex Michaels

I’ve been a pretty average person for all my life. I haven’t really done anything special, just lived my life in mediocrity, did the things I loved and enjoyed life.

My average weekend consisted of watching “Lost” on TV,  drinking a beer and ordering in pizza when I run out of cereal and bread.

After getting my masters in the University of Vermont, things continued the same way.

I worked at a local sports store, facing hell every morning waking up and hating what I had to do for a living, I always felt that there was no escape.

Eventually my first wife left me, because things were getting out of hand around the house. That was a serious wake-up call for me.

I spent a lot of time working out to get back in shape, which led me to swimming, surfing, and you guessed it, kayaking. These are things I had loved to do ever since I was a kid, but my laziness dominated them over time.

I quickly fell in love with them again and soon they became a big part of my life. At the start of 2012 I started reading books like “The 4-hour workweek” by Tim Ferriss and Robery Kiyosaki’s “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” which lit a fire up inside me.

I soon wanted to create a business around something I loved and that ended up being tandem kayaking, something that actually saved my marriage about six months after it ended, because it brought us closer.. But that’s a story for another time.

I created a tandem kayak rental locally and also started teaching kayaking and tandem kayaking as an instructor, which was a major success.

As my life got back on track I also moved on to new hobbies like kayak fishing, but that just didn’t do it.  I had way too much free time on my hands and not a place to put it, I was just spending it all with my family.

In February 2013 I started a website called “Tandem Kayak Reviews” where I posted countless of articles (and still do) and a bunch of product reviews on the kayaks I have owned and still do.

I now spend the majority of my days working on the site and thinking of new content to post there and just generally expanding my horizons when it comes to the things I love doing.

This is a quick overview of everything I’ve done so far, I hope to one day update it with even more success.
